ATHLETE BLOG LEOMINSTER
Have you ever wondered how your kid’s speed stacks up against the competition, not just locally but nationwide?
We all know speed is a coveted trait among coaches at elite levels, regardless of which sport they play.
If you’d like to find out, I've got an exciting new tool to share with you today.
The Universal Speed Rating (USR), created by top speed coach Les Spellman, is a vast database that tracks & enhances the speed development of athletes nationwide.
Athletes with a verified USR get more than just an overall ranking.
Times are rated based on age, gender and sport, giving a more accurate picture of how close someone is to others across the country that are just like them.
Power Source is proud to say that we have become the latest USR Speed Lab, partnering to provide better data and better training for our local athletes.
Thus far the top male sprinter in our initial testing at Power Source achieved a peak velocity of 20.1 miles per hour, yet only ranked in the 82nd percentile.
Our top female sprinter ran 17.3 MPH, scoring in the 88th percentile.
These are two extremely fast athletes, yet neither even cracked the top 10%!
Which gives you an idea of how much athletic talent our kids are competing with.
Would you like to know where your young athlete currently ranks?
If so, I’d like to invite them to attend a free speed combine we’re hosting on Monday, November 11th (Veteran’s Day).
The age 14+ combine will run from 3:00 - 4:00 PM.
Our ages 9 to 13 combine from 4:00 - 5:00 PM.
Registration is completely free.
We’ll take participants through a brief warm up, complete multiple rounds of testing, then go over strategies at the end to improve.
The registration link is here:
VETERAN’S DAY SPEED COMBINE AT POWER SOURCE
Participants will be able to create their own USR account, to which we will upload your speeds for you.
Once that’s in place, you’ll be able to see exactly how fast your child is compared to their peers.
While knowing your rank is nice, the greatest value of tracking your USR is to see how each individual improves over time.
Those with a verified USR account can also see and track your progress over time, as you incrementally move up the ranks and improve your game.
It’s a really cool method for gently pushing kids to develop speed.
We’ve already noticed a good amount of friendly competition breaking out here, with those involved already seeing gains because of it.
Not to mention, more than ever our kids hang on every word when we provide speed tips, knowing the results could show up on their very next sprint.
Speed development is truly the most underutilized advantage for athletes in today’s hypercompetitive environment.
Which is crazy, because we know that faster players get more playing time, more scholarships, more opportunities at every level of sport.
The first step to determining where you are on your elite speed journey is to find out where you’re starting from.
If you are available, consider spending just one hour with us on Veteran’s Day to obtain your son or daughter’s Universal Speed Rating.
