ATHLETE BLOG LEOMINSTER

Your youth athlete dreams of playing the sport they love in college some day.
They're doing great right now, so it doesn't seem far fetched.
Whether signing day is still years away, or if they're being recruited now, as a parent you want to give them every chance to reach that dream.
To do so, look at development from a college coach's perspective.
When college and pro scouts come to see a prospect, they're looking for attributes most believe can't be developed at the next level.
A strong foundation of sport skills.
A love of the game.
And, yes, burning speed.
They expect you to already have these in place, but other deficiencies are not as disqualifying.
If you don't understand the finer points of them game, most elite coaches believe they can teach it to you.
If you're a little undersized, their strength staff can build you up.
But speed?
It's still rare to find coaches who believe you can improve it.
Which means the two or three fastest players at a showcase are always going to get a scout's attention.
Every single time, regardless of sport.
Recruiting is a projection game, coaches must be able to visualize a path for you to succeed not just at your current competition level, but at theirs.
After all, their reputation, and maybe even their job, is on the line.
Would you risk your family's financial future giving scholarships to 14 MPH athletes competing against 20 MPH opponents?
It's just tough to envision success with that formula.
Because we all know how speed dominates athletics.
This is why most top programs immediately cross you off their prospect list if you aren't fast enough.
If you're not one of the fastest right now, it doesn't mean your dreams are doomed.
We both know you can get faster, it happens every day in our Speed School classes and in other programs like ours.
But even in the best case scenario, you'll improve by 1 or 2 MPH in a year.
Which means any athlete seeking to put on that college uniform can't afford to wait until next season, or next year, to build speed.
They needed to start yesterday
Streamlining sprint technique to remove inefficiencies.
Adding power to accelerate with more burst.
It's all trainable, for those willing to put in the time.
Now don't get me wrong, you still need to be able to play your sport.
And you need to be physical enough that scouts won't fear for your safety competing with rugged college players.
But make no mistake, being fast guarantees you'll get a real look from scouts.
It really is that essential.
We are happy to help any athlete who has the drive, and the work ethic, to get faster.
If you have a son or daughter age 10 or older who needs speed, reach out to us, we know how to help.
